standard identity design

As a book editor, Nenia works through Ballard Editorial to use her experienced perspective to help writers tell stories in an accurate and captivating way. Ballard Editorial needed an identity to pull together the brand as a whole and commit to building something great. The business prioritizes a warm, welcoming feel and we were set on capturing that in this identity.

Strategy Overview

how we win hearts

brand substance

Vision : To see growing authors craft narratives with confidence.
Mission : Providing fully authentic and attentive editorial work that elevates the creations of growing authors.

audience

Looking at who Ballard Editorial is bet fit to serve, we see Grace. A first-time author who's seeking a trusting source to review her work to avoid her biggest fears of flaws in her work.

positioning

The unique position we discovered rests on 3 key things: an author-to-author approach, a specialized focus on law enforcement due to Nenia's past, and client care that is highly personal and caring.

personality

In capturing an ideal personality for Ballard Editorial, we focused in on a friendly, informal and wise presence.

Visual Identity

logo & color palette

It was key to capture the editorial focus while creating a fully unique image for Ballard. We took a lot of inspiration from typewriters and ultimately styled the base font in a serif from that vision. The logo mark resembles a typewriter key as well. The color palette leans heavily on black and warm white with sharp accents of red to mimic the red of an editor's pen.

brand icons

In support of the same imperfect, editorial style, our icons take on a very rough hand drawn look and reflect warm, relevant imagery to easy bring character to all applications.

surface pattern

Our brand pattern draws from the same rough-around-the-edges typewriter inspiration that was drawn from throughout the rest of the identity. To give an accent of branded flare, we incorporated highlighted B's scattered throughout.
